Getting Started with the SCP Board Game: A Beginner’s Guide

Sometimes trying out a new board game can be intimidating. This is partly because board games vary in difficulty – some take minutes to grasp, while others seemingly require PhDs in linguistics and code-breaking. A complicated game might even discourage players, which is the last thing anyone wants! After all, it might mean missing out on the chance of a lifetime – an epic adventure like the one offered by Escape from Site 19!

Some might say that EFS19 is one of the harder games out there. And that might be true. For many people, the game’s complicated rules, roleplay, and numerous mechanics might overwhelm. This is why it’s recommended that you properly prepare before attempting your escape:

1. Read the manual together

Naturally, it’s vital with any board game to read the instruction manual. In the case of EFS19, it’s particularly useful to do this collectively. Not only will this allow you a better opportunity to understand and engage with each and every game mechanic, but it will bond you as a group. Remember – Escape from Site 19 requires players to cooperate as a team, so it’s important you’re all on the same page when it comes to beginning your adventure.

2. Create the appropriate ambiance

If you’ve read the Escape from Site 19 manual, you’ll know that it’s recommended to play in a dark, mysterious environment. But how can you achieve this? Well, first of all, you could play during the evening or at night – a gloomy world beyond your window will always make things a little more scary. Secondly, you should turn off any unnecessary lights. The darker the room, the deeper the shadows, the eerier the atmosphere. Thirdly, you might turn off all phones. They will only distract you. And you’ll need your wits about you to escape. (That said, a phone could be used to play moody music and as a timer for certain tasks.)

3. Live your character

Escape from Site 19 is a roleplay-based game, so it’s important to connect with the character you choose to play as. Take your time to think about your new personality, backstory, and relationships. The possibilities are endless, so every game will be a new creative challenge. Remember – anyone can read their character’s name and traits off the card, but you’ll only be cheating yourself of the full EFS19 experience. This is your chance to become a Shaman, Agent, or O5 Council Member – so embrace it!

4. Have fun

Escape from Site 19 is a board game. It’s been designed so that you and your friends have fun (while simultaneously exploring the dark, uncanny corridors of Site 19). If something goes wrong, don’t worry – no one will be angry (unless one of your team is a little too obsessed with escaping). Because of course, mistakes can and will occur. After all, the further you get in your journey through Site 19, the harder the tasks become… so anything could happen! As long as you remember – if you fail to escape the first time, you can always try, try again…
